Biography
Mr. Amoroso attended the Philadelphia College of the Performing Arts as a
scholarship student and studied with Lorne Munroe, Samuel Mayes, and William
Stokking, former first chair members of the Philadelphia Orchestra. He has a
Bachelor's Degree in Music and a Master's Degree in Performance. Before entering
college, he joined the Air Force and became a member and solo cellist of the Air
Force Band, performing frequently throughout the United States.
As a chamber music artist, Mr. Amoroso has appeared with the Concerto Soloists of
Philadelphia and completed several tours with them along the U.S. East Coast. He
has given countless solo recitals in the Philadelphia area, including recitals at the
Philadelphia Musical Academy, Dickinson College, Lafayette College, and Eastern
University. Many of his solo performances were often broadcasted live on the former
WFLN and WRTI radio stations, including live appearances on sindicated television
stations.
In 1989, he joined forces with his son, Richard Jr, a violinist with the Philadelphia
Orchestra to perform as guest soloists with Peter Nero and the Philly Pops at the
Academy of Music in Philadelphia. Since then, the Amoroso's have teamed up to
perform numerous chamber music concerts in churches, colleges and universities
and to this day, they continue to delight those same audiences with their talents and
charm.
Currently, Mr. Amoroso substitutes with the Philadelphia Orchestra and is an adjunct
professor of music at Eastern University. Additionally, he and his son along with two
other members of the Orchestra, perform throughout the east coast of the U.S. as
the Amoroso String Quartet.
